Moving Toward Competitiveness

I've found the game of Warmachine/Hordes unfulfilling beyond the hobby aspect for more than a year now. With the confluence of eMorvahna playing in a way I wish pMorvahna could and the recent commentated Iron Gauntlet videos Privateer Press Prime has released, I find myself with a re-ignited passion.

For too long I played caster kill only or strictly killbox. Even with this current season of JBL starting to utilize SR2013 rules, I only got a few games in that were scenario and was still helping some opponents while the group grows their armies and experience. Our non-gaming-store group has a lot of potential with very smart players.

HOWEVER, I live very close to a spawning vessel of serious tournament players with decent access to most major East Coast tournaments. So I am moving in a direction.
Morvahna the Dawnshadow (*5pts)
* Woldwatcher (5pts)
* Warpwolf Stalker (10pts)
Reeves of Orboros (Leader and 9 Grunts) (10pts)
Warpborn Skinwalkers (Leader and 4 Grunts) (8pts)
* Warpborn Alpha (3pts)
Wolves of Orboros (Leader and 9 Grunts) (6pts)
* Wolf of Orboros Officer & Standard (2pts)
Shifting Stones (2pts)
* Stone keeper (1pts)

Blackclad Wayfarer (2pts)
Gallows Grove (1pts)

War Wolf (1pts)
I like double stalker as much as the next guy, but I believe eMorv's feat begs for 3 units of infantry. Also no Gorax. The hope is that Scales of fate will be strong enough to fill in the gaps when the Stalker really needs it. I want to consider Woldwrath, but I would have to sacrifice a lot of bodies to do it. Lastly is the Woldwatcher. Great for his protective benefits but with the improved consistency of Scales of Fate giving him a much better chance of putting that forrest exactly where it's needed.

Won't know until I try it more. With this build the only thing I may consider changing off the bat is dropping the the Stones w/ Keeper for a Gatorman Witchdoctor.

PBL 2012 - Round 4: Circle vs Cygnar & Skorne

Round 4 of this year's Paul's Basement League started with our second set of 25 point match-ups. I played 2 games; the first against Scott's Cygnar and the second against Wyatt's Skorne. Having spent so much time repairing and converting my Gorax, I was not able to finish any models completely to add to my paint-points for the season. (warning: many pics after the jump)

PBL Prep - Round 5

The next round of this year's Paul's Basement League (PBL) is just over a week away and I've got my work cut out for me. With an brave sense of determination, I've decided to completely change my list. Rather than Kaya some beasts and a handful of Bloodtrackers, I've decided to bring the "Boys of Orboros" to the next bout. Here is the list and the state of the union at the moment (I've got a lot of work to do):

Grayle the Farstrider (Assembled)
* Gorax (Needs highlights and basework)
* Warpwolf Stalker (Basecoated)
Druids of Orboros (Needs touch-up and highlights)
Shifting Stones (Finished)
Reeve Hunter (Primed)
War Wolf (Needs highlighting and basework)
Wolflord Morraig (Just assembled)

Table War Trays

As the next PBL event approaches in 6 days, I've been working away on some terrain projects. After years of playing on the same tables, interest has been expressed in refurbishing and updating some of them. They have held up great, but as our painting and gaming experience has grown, the tables stand largely unimproved.

Table War tray in progress.
While I've been in a terrain mode, I've also made some progress on my Table War trays. Above is the second tray having the base-guides glued in, the gaps filled with foam putty and some slate glued down. It is ready for sand and priming, but that process obscures the details of the product.

Weekend of Warmachine & Hordes!

My Circle of Orboros, preparing to charge.
This past weekend kicked off the first weekend of this year's Paul's Basement League series of Warmachine and Hordes. We started with 15 points and played introductory games. For many of the players it was their first real experience with this Privateer Press system.

Introductions

Hi guys! My name is Josh and I am a miniature wargamer, like most of you reading this. I play 40k, Warmachine/Hordes and dabble in Warhammer Fantasy and Dystopian Wars. I'm usually playing the system that is featured in the current Paul's Basement League season. This season is Warmachine & Hordes. We start this season on Saturday and I have decided to play my Circle of Orboros. This picture is my 15 point list:

Kaya the Moonhunter & Laris (*3pts)
* Argus (4pts)
* Pureblood Warpwolf (9pts)
Shifting Stones (2pts)
* Stone keeper (1pts)
Blackclad Wayfarer (2pts)

I plan on keeping my personal recounts here on this site as the escalation league begins.
